Beneath the Brimstone emerged from a process of intuitive experimentation with acrylics—layering organic shapes, bold color contrasts, and unexpected textures. At first, the composition felt like a landscape, but the deeper I worked, the more the “beneath” began to dominate. The stone-like upper section became the focus, both visually and conceptually. Orientation played a key role; flipping the piece shifted its energy entirely. I ultimately positioned it to highlight what lies underneath, inviting viewers to see the messier, more vibrant foundation as the heart of the work.
