It's the Abstracts for Me!

Updated: Mar 4, 2022

Can you believe it’s June already?! I love the summer and the heat, so this month is always a welcome change for me. 😊

As things start to open up around here, I find that I am starting to become restless. I’ve signed up for and attended a few pop-ups and art shows already this spring and summer, which has been a welcome change. It’s so fantastic meeting so many new people and connecting over a topic that grows closer to my heart every day—art and painting.

Interestingly enough, this energy and movement has translated to my artwork recently. I’ve been really inspired (much to my left-brain’s chagrin) to create abstracts on small surfaces—6”x6” wood panels and canvases. These abstracts are very expressive with broad brushstrokes, lots of colors—I’m especially into pastels—and lots of movement. They are beautifully energetic and while my rational mind wants to create something more realistic and more “planned”, my heart is really drawn to the freedom these pieces give me. My personal palette and preferred brushstrokes and marks have also started to make themselves known the more that I practice, which has been one of the biggest delights of this process.

One of the downfalls has been that my planning brain has really resisted this process, telling me what I “should” be creating instead. As a result these paintings really are exercises to loosen myself up and embrace that right-brained freedom artists crave.

I encourage you to check out the pieces which I’ve created over these past few weeks on these two pages—Original Artwork and Pieces Sold. The term “daily paintings” is really a misnomer, but I’m not sure what else to call them. Right brain exercises? Studio warm-ups? Regardless, they are a really unique and fun look into my creative process as a painter.

One last thing before I wrap-up. I’m doing one more pop-up this month on the 18th and 19th of June. If you are in the Harrisburg, PA area I encourage you to check it out and come say hey! I often have special deals going on in person that I don’t on my website.

My next one after that will be in July (a girl needs some time to paint, ya know?!).

Have a beautiful rest of your week!
